Zone Contracts for Regions 1 and 6
Design Phase
REGION 1:
- Anaho Island National Wildlife Refuge
Reno, Nevada - San Diego National Wildlife Refuge
Various sites around San Diego
In the unique landscape of Anaho Island, Nevada, two large orientation signs welcome visitors to Anaho Island National Wildlife Refuge. A life-like diorama of pelicans nesting provides a rare look into the behavior of these wild birds, while a large sculptural element provides a stunning representation of one of these magnificent birds in flight.
In the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge Complex, a series of outdoor interpretive signs will explain the landscape of 3 separate wildlife areas.
REGION 6:
- Karl Mundt National Wildlife Refuge
Lake Andes, SD - Kelly Slough National Wildlife Refuge
Devils Lake, ND - Lake Alice National Wildlife Refuge
Devils Lake, ND - Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge
Maybell, CO - Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge
Kirwin, KS
Across 4 states, Formations is designing and fabricating 39 interpretive signs dealing with the preservation of essential habitat for numerous species of migratory birds. Visitors will be encouraged to discover the varied species of migratory birds that inhabit the refuges at different times of the year. They will also learn about efforts by the Fish and Wildlife Service to preserve and restore the land—and the native species that depend on it—through methods such as prescribed burns, native tree planting, flood control, and cattle grazing.
