Derek Jeter's offseason plans will include daily appearances at the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. At least, you can count on his lifelike sculpture being there.
The institution in Louisville, Ky., plans to celebrate Derek Jeter Day on Saturday, having unveiled a permanent tribute to the Yankees' captain earlier this week.
"It's a true honor to be recognized in this way by Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory," Jeter said in a statement. "Louisville Slugger is synonymous with baseball. I've used the same bat model (P72) throughout my career, and it's a privilege to have such a tribute in this great museum devoted to the skill and history of hitting."
Guests on Saturday will have the opportunity to hold one of Jeter's game-used bats and will receive Jeter mini-bats.
Admission costs $2, in recognition of Jeter's jersey number, and proceeds will be donated to Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation.
"We are thrilled to feature Derek Jeter in the museum," said executive director Anne Jewell. "Jeter is a baseball rock star, an ambassador for the game and a huge fan favorite. We're proud to include him in our lineup of baseball greats, and we know our guests will love it."
Jeter is the fourth player to be honored with a statue at the museum, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2011. The others are Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Ken Griffey Jr.
